Wedding Invitations

Having many countries, religions, native tribes and other groups, Africa has a diverse array of wedding traditions. The specific tradition depends on the area of Africa and each individual group. It seems that every group has their own unique culture and set if rules to follow that completely differ from surrounding groups.

After doing some research I ran across some interesting traditions that struck me.

How would you like your mother to find your spouse and you have nothing to say about it? Some groups in Africa actually do it this way. The mother seeks out the bride (a complete stranger) and chooses who she feels fit.  I don’t know about you but I don’t think I could trust my mother’s judgment in that area. Especially after the clothing she would pick out for me ;0) At least with clothes if you don’t like them, you can make them “disappear”.

Some groups (such as a particular native tribe), don’t even have to worry about wedding etiquette as the wedding is  simply the groom showing up at the house of his bride in an animal skin robe. 
 
Here’s the real kicker…How would you feel having someone watching you on wedding night? A little awkward?  Another group in Africa have to do this to confirm the brides virginity and that the marriage has been consummated.
