An Example of a Wedding Quilt - Wedding Etiquette

Since we were on the topic of wedding quilts in last weeks wedding etiquette blog, I decided to go on a search for some ideas and examples to give you.

This one wedding quilt I ran across included a mixture of all the traditional ideas for wedding quilts. This particular quilt was completely handmade, very durable and had many tiny details that showed the story of the both the bride and grooms lives and their families lives through the generations.

The pictures so attractively pieced together included a covered wagon to symbolize the brides’ pioneer heritage and a shamrock represented a part of the grooms’ heritage. The pirate looking ship on it was representative of both families coming over by boat many years ago. On the sails of the ship were a large eagle feather and a tiny raccoon that represented the eagle and orphaned raccoon the bride saved and cared for as a kid. There were so many more pictures included on this king sized quilt that it was almost like a “can you find” game. Although it sounds random and mismatched, it turned out really quite nice.

The various fabrics that made up each design came from around the world where the bride lived and visited with her family. Being an army brat they had the privilege to travel to many countries around the world. Her mother being an avid fabric collector would often purchase authentic fabrics and patterns that were specific to each country and make things with them.
