Choosing the Wedding Photographer

How and who to choose as a wedding photographer can be an adventure. Luckily it’s one of those things you shouldn’t have to put too much time or energy into.

If you’re trying to save money and have a friend or family member be the wedding photographer, make sure they have good quality film equipment and experience.
If they offer, it’s ok to ask them what kind of experience they have. They shouldn’t get offend and should understand you want to assure good quality photos for your big day.
If you ask them, be sure you know what kind of experience they have and even seen previous work.

If you decide you want a professional photographer, they have special books of example photos they’ve taken for you to view. Consider his/her style, the price and the photographers demeanor. Ask questions. See if they’re open to your ideas as well as incorporating their own. Make sure it’s someone who will listen to what you would like. I’ve seen one photographer argue with the newlyweds when they wanted a picture in front of the rose bushes. He wanted to do it his way or the highway. I think he needed some lessons on wedding etiquette.

Be considerate or the wedding photographers time. They too have busy schedules and commitments.  Be open and honest with them.  If you don’t intend on using them, don’t lead them on.

Finally, when you’ve decided who you’re going with, be sure to go over expectations. Remember, he/she can’t read your mind.
