How Much $ Should I Spend On The Wedding Gift? - Wedding Etiquette

Many people have the question “how much should I spend on the gift?” Some people even worry “how much are my friends spending on the gift?” On one hand they’re afraid of looking cheap. On the other hand, they don’t want to spend too much money (due to a tight budget).

First of all, may I suggest not worrying about how much your friends are spending. If you spend too much energy focusing on “how it’s going to look” if you don’t spend as much as everyone else, then you are going to drive yourself crazy. Besides, chances are the recipients will be too bombarded with gifts and ciaos, they won’t have time to compare your gifts against your friends.

Ever hear the expression “it’s the thought that counts”? This is exactly where this comes in. The thought behind it is much more important than the dollar amount. Sometimes it’s the small inexpensive things that people want the most, but often get overlooked.

But still there’s the dilemma of how much is considered proper wedding gift etiquette to spend on the wedding gift. A good suggestion I ran across was to consider the cost of your meal and other food they provided for you and go a little over that. Generally speaking, you’re looking at $35-$55.

If you really want your gift to be noticed and not lost in the shuffle of the wedding day, consider shipping it. This way they have more time to notice it. Unless of course you don’t want them notice, then just make sure it blends into all the other gifts ;0).
