Second Wedding Ceremonies

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were married back in September in a small, private wedding. Now she’s planning a larger second wedding to include about 150 guests in the coming months. Smooth move or financial faux pas? While celebrities can afford as many wedding ceremonies as they would like, there are times when a second wedding makes sense for the rest of us.

  • Army brides are the first thought that comes to many minds when discussing second weddings. With many young men (and women) being quickly shipped off to war in exotic locales, a rushed first wedding is often in the couples’ initial plans. A more elaborate wedding can be planned while their spouse is away, and the date can be set for when he returns home.
  • With the financial crunch many people are facing, a small first wedding is often a wise choice for those who cannot wait to be married. Combining two incomes, along with the expenses of two households, makes good economic sense for a lot of couples. When the economy improves, a second wedding becomes more affordable, and the couple can celebrate their love with all their friends and family.
  • When your and your spouse’s families live miles apart, two weddings can make things easier on your loved ones. Holding two weddings can make both families feel included in your wedded bliss. If you choose to go this route, be sure you intend on having both ceremonies. If your plans fall through, your long distance family may feel left out.

Have any of you decided to hold two wedding ceremonies? Did they turn out as planned, or less satisfying? Share your experiences here with a quick comment.
