Stinkin’ Reception Hall
Next time you attend a wedding, pay attention to the smells. Perhaps you even remember some smells from previous weddings that were obvious and couldn’t be ignored.
A few years back I helped a friend find the “right place” for her wedding. On the outside, many of the buildings looked great, but on the inside they had different degrees of stale and mildew smells, especially the older buildings.
Sure opening windows just hours before your event will help air it out a bit, but once those windows are closed the smells sneak up again. Some people have their wedding reception in the gymnasiums of churches and schools, so opening windows isn’t even an option. The gymnasiums tend to have that stale dirt and body smell.
Well here’s a wedding etiquette tip to help resolve the stinkin’ problem and even put you and your guests in the right mood…
Diffusing essential oils such as lemon and orange, not only give the room a heavenly aroma, they are believed to influence moods in a positive and joyful direction. Orange is even believed to help relieve stress and tension. (There are actual scientific studies underway on this theory). Many people even diffuse lemon essential oil to disinfect the air.
Now you may have guests who claim to be sensitive to fragrances. It turns out it’s actually the synthetic additives in the perfumes and oils. If you have the real deal, 100% pure essential oil with nothing added to it, you are less likely to have problems. If people have reactions, chances are it’s not pure.
