Tasty Tips

Use a small one- or two-tier wedding cake to cut and feed each other at the reception, while having sheet cakes of the same flavor in the back, presliced by the caterer and ready to serve.

Discuss with your groom prior to the wedding how you plan to handle the sharing of the first bite of cake. Some brides do not like having cake smeared on their faces, but if this suits your styles, then go for it.

Save the top tier of your wedding cake to eat at your one-year anniversary. Cover it in plastic wrap and then tin foil. Then place it in a small box and wrap the box in plastic wrap and foil before freezing it. This should both prevent freezer burn and preserve the taste of the cake until your anniversary.

Avoid saving cake that is made with fresh fruit, though, as it may not survive the year.
