Wedding Etiquette - with Gift Registries
Etiquette when Registering for Gifts
Gift and bridal registries are a great way to help guest know what to give you and to make gift-giving more efficient. Here are some things to consider when you register.
Give your guests a variety of choices and price ranges to choose from
Select items in different price ranges – it looks presumptuous to only register for the most expensive items. It will also give people a choice of gifts depending on their finances. Guests may add a less expensive item from your list (say a garlic press) to go with the gift they have already selected for you.
It’s alright to register for a great variety of items, from a tool set to a set of dishes. You’re not limited to the traditional. I personally like the idea of an engraved iPod - not exactly what is typically thought of as a wedding gift.
Don’t forget Online Registries
You can register for gifts both online and offline. Large retailers like target have online registries. These make it convenient for guests to order gifts no matter where they live. They can also have gifts shipped to your home rather than bringing the gifts on the plane.
I already covered that it’s in poor taste to list where you’re registered on your wedding invitations. Instead, spread the information by word of mouth, or when someone asks. This is proper wedding etiquette.
