The Practice of Giving Thank You Gifts

Your wedding is done. Everything went well according to plan. But you know the event wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for the help of some people. People who have been thourougly helpful the whole time. So it’s only natural that you show these people your gratitude for making the most wonderful day of your life possible.

Giving gifts to people who has been a great aid in your wedding whether physically or emotionally, has been a common practice. Give a token of thanks as well as a nice note to anyone who organized a brunch, shower, bachelor or bachelorette party, or rehearsal dinner.

Anybody who has successfully fulfilled their respective roles in your wedding and exceeded your expectations deserves a token of thanks. Appropriate gifts, depending on what you want to spend, include a nice bottle of wine or champagne, a fruit basket, a ceramic or glass memento, a paperweight or piece of glass with your wedding date engraved or etched on it. A gift certificate, or flowers. Or at least you can send a nice thank you card for their help and support.

Inquire at bridal shops or wedding magazines about companies that specialize in wedding invitations preservation. This is a wonderful gift to the people who aided in making your wedding a wonderful experience.

A Little Girl’s Dream Come True

Growing up, I remember looking at the framed wedding invitation on my mother’s dressing table quite a lot as a little girl. The nine-year-old me thought it was just beautiful to look at the formal Olde English text and my parents’ names, but I think my favorite part was the passage on the invitation that read “request the honour of your presence.” Something about that spelling, “honour,” just struck me. From then on, whenever I’d dream of the day my prince would come, I’d think about that beautiful wedding invitation on my mother’s dressing table.

When my prince finally showed up and we got down to the serious and very important business of planning our wedding, I started poring over wedding invitation catalogs almost right away. I had a picture in my head of precisely the invitation I wanted (luckily, my prince did not feel as passionately about invitations and deferred to my choice): cream card stock, formal font, engraving, and of course that word “honour.”

After many wedding invitation websites and catalogs, many consultations of wedding etiquette books, and (I’m not ashamed to say) more than a few printers’ proofs, the box of wedding invitations arrived from the printer. Although of course not anywhere near as happy as the wedding day itself, opening that box made me very happy. There they were, at long last: the cream card stock, engraving, formal font, and my favorite “honour,” with my name right next to my prince’s name. My dream invitation was a reality.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that I’ve framed our wedding invitation and it sits on my dressing table, even as my prince and I approach our tenth anniversary.

Ancient Wedding Ring Tradition & Which Goes First, The Engagement Ring or Wedding Ring

Have you ever wondered why we traditionally wear our wedding rings on the left ring finger? There are a couple theories for this.

It’s believed that many Ancient Egyptians and Romans wore their wedding rings on the left ring finger as a symbolism and a link to the couple’s destiny. You see, the left ring finger was believed to follow the “vena amoris” (a vein of love), which lead directly to he heart.

Another theory comes from the 17th century when wedding rings were apparently worn on the thumb until the wedding ceremony when they were then moved to the 4th finger. It’s believed that during a Christian ceremony the priest would touch three fingers on the left hand while saying “In the name of the Father – Son – and Holy Ghost”. The ring would then be placed on the forth finger (the ring finger).

Have you ever noticed that some people take off their engagement ring for the wedding ceremony and then others prefer to leave it on? Ever wonder what is the right way to do it?

There really is no “right way” to do it because it depends on your traditions and what symbolisms you prefer to follow. Some people choose to place the engagement ring on their finger first because that’s the event that happened first. Others choose to wear their wedding bands first because it’s closest to their heart (symbolically and literally).

Thanks for taking the time to enjoy our wedding etiquette blog.

Make Your Own Postage Stamps For Your Wedding Invitations

USPS often comes out with beautiful “love” or “wedding” themed stamps that many people include on their wedding invitations. However, there are those who want the stamp to tell about their character.  For example, I know this couple who loved fishing, so they used the fish stamp series that had come out. That was quite the site. Here arrives this beautiful fancy wedding invitation with a trout stamp on it. It certainly caught my attention.  Although choosing the stamp is probably the last of every couple’s worries, it can be fun to take that extra step to show your character.

Well now days you can really get creative and make your own legitimate stamps to put on your wedding invitations, using your own photos. www.PhotoStamps.com is a perfect example of a service that offers this. They make it unbelievably easy and walk you through the step by step process.

This a great option for those who had some great engagement photos but could only choose one.  This would give you the opportunity to throw in that second picture. You can even make this one a candid picture.

If you do this, you need to make sure the company is an approved licensed vendor and authorized by the US Postal Service, like www.PhotoStamps.com is. Otherwise you could end up with bogus stamps.

There’s no wedding etiquette rule about it, so have some fun.
