Choosing the Wedding Theme - Wedding Etiquette

So I’ve shared with you many unique wedding themes I’ve run across. Now let’s talk about the wedding etiquette and considerations behind the choosing of a wedding theme.

I can see why choosing a wedding theme out of the ordinary is considerably uncommon. Take the Harry Potter wedding theme for example. First you actually have to have a couple who shares the passion equally as strong. That unto itself is rare. Then they have to actually agree on a theme.

The next considerations they must ask themselves are; Is it feasible? How much extra time do we have to do this vs a regular wedding? How creative can we get? How are we going to do it? Can we fit it into the budget? Are the reception halls going to be ok with this? Are our guests (family & friends) going to go with us on this idea?

Let’s talk about time and budget a bit. Some people may worry it’s going to cost too much or take too much time to plan a themed wedding.  Well, think about it this way…theme or no theme, you’re still going to spend time and money on your dress, flowers, food, dishes, decorations, etc. The only thing that’s different is you’d just be looking for, planning and spending on specific things to go with your theme.

There’s so much more to talk about on this topic, so join us tomorrow. In the mean time, have a great day!

100 Acre Wood Wedding

Winnie the Pooh holds dear to many of our hearts, but no more than this couple who desperately wanted the theme of their wedding as the 100 Acre Woods. My first thought when I heard about this was “if you can find someone who is as passionate as you on this particular subject, they are definitely a keeper”. My second thought was “if you can pull off a theme like this, imagine how fun in would be for the children attending”. The problem was they were trying to do this with basically no budget and were ready to say “forget it” and just go to the court house. Unbeknown to the engaged couple, their families were plotting in the background.

Their families somehow pooled their resources and connections and surprised the couple with the wedding of their dreams. Apparently on a low budget too. They reserved a wooded park that could easily and temporarily be transformed into the 100 Acre Wood. It included a rope swing for the kids and one of their connections even provided a real looking Pooh, Tiger and Rabbit house front which they attached to the trees.

In addition to that the family knew neither the bride nor groom had been to Disneyland before and couldn’t afford a “real” honeymoon, so they surprised them with an all expenses paid honeymoon to Disneyland. Needless to say their first ride as a married couple was the Winnie the Pooh ride. Talk about an amazing family.

I hope you felt inspired from today’s wedding etiquette blog. Have a great day.

A Harry Potter Wedding? Wow!

You know you’re a Harry Potter fanatic when you base the theme of your wedding off the Harry Potter books and movies. That would certainly be one I would want to attend, just to say I had.

As far fetched as it sounds, it is true. I recently heard (from a very reliable source) of a couple who are planning their wedding reception/dinner exactly that way. Now I’m not talking about tacky cheap looking decorations. The goal is to make it look and feel like you’re really in a Harry Potter movie. They have thought of every last detail and it’s going to be a quality authentic experience.

This couple has found an old beautiful cathedral like hall for their dinner which apparently looks much like the dinning hall of Hogwarts. The “feast” will be laid out in the same fashion as the movie on not modern but vintage dishes. They plan is to even have candles hovering over the guests at the dinning hall, just like the magical lit ones. How they will pull that one off, I have no idea. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

It would be interesting to see if they have real live owls flying around delivering messages to the guests. For sanitary reasons I can’t imagine they would take the risk of having the owls flying over the food.

This doesn’t sound like one you can do on the cheap, but if you can afford it, go for it. It’ll be something to talk about for years to come. Just make sure you get lots of pictures.

We’ll see you tomorrow with more interesting stories and ideas in this wedding etiquette
blog.
